Natural rattan is an eco-friendly material. It grows in nature. Most of our weaving material rattan is imported from Indonesia. However, since 2018, the Indonesian government banned the export of raw material. This means the China market has a shortage of raw rattan cane material. Because of this, the cost of all rattan products is very high. Many of our customers told me they cannot accept these high prices. We work hard to find ways to keep quality high and costs reasonable.

Rattan material has four grades: A, B, C, and D. Grade A is the best and most expensive. Grade B is the middle grade. Grade C has green peel on it, but it is strong enough. For making rattan chairs, Grade C is often the best choice, especially if the furniture will be a dark color. It is cheaper and strong enough for chair seats. As for Grade D, it is best for decoration. It has a beautiful color, but it is not strong enough for furniture making, as it breaks easily. So, Grade D fits well for project decoration, like wall or ceiling applications. I always guide our buyers, like Adel, to choose the right grade for their specific project. Since 2018, we have also developed more color choices for our rattan cane webbing. It is a best-seller now. Rattan is soft and not easy to break when woven. This makes it friendly for machine weaving. Our factories depend on imported raw material. The price depends on the supply from Indonesia, so our costs are getting higher. Still, we have good relationships with our five cooperated rattan cane webbing factories in China. We control both quality and production well. Is wicker or rattan better for outdoor furniture?

Are you wondering which woven material lasts outdoors? Many people think rattan is fine for outside, but this often leads to disappointment and quick wear.

Natural rattan, with its beautiful organic look, traditionally only fitted for inside use. I have seen many furniture factories like Jacky’s try to use natural rattan outdoors. It often does not last long in sun or rain. It can become brittle or grow mold. That is why we developed new materials.
