At SeaFan Rattan, we have been immersed in the world of rattan since 1995. My experience has shown me how this material, in its various forms, can transform spaces and products. Let me share my insights on how rattan cane webbing fits into furniture and interiors.
Rattan cane webbing in furniture?
Do your furniture designs need that classic yet contemporary touch? Many furniture makers, like Jacky, look for materials that are both beautiful and strong for their creations.
Rattan cane webbing in furniture provides a lightweight, durable, and breathable element, ideal for chair seats, cabinet doors, and panel inserts. We offer natural rattan in various grades and innovative plastic alternatives to suit all furniture manufacturing needs.

When it comes to furniture, natural rattan cane webbing has a long history. It is an eco-friendly product. It is a natural material. But the supply has become short over the years. Most of our weaving material rattan comes from Indonesia. Our factories depend on these imports. The price depends on Indonesia’s supply, which means our costs can become higher.
I have seen how different grades of rattan material fit different furniture needs. Rattan material has four grades: A, B, C, and D. Grade A is the best and most expensive, used for top-tier pieces where flawless aesthetics are key. Grade B is a good middle ground. Grade C has green peel on it, but it is very strong. I have found that for making rattan chairs, especially those designed for dark colors, Grade C is often the best choice. It is cheaper and strong enough for chair seats. Even though its color has more green peel, it works perfectly when painted or used with darker wood. For lighter furniture, Grade C is not as popular because of the green peel. Grade D is best for decoration. It has a beautiful color, but it is not strong enough for furniture making, as it breaks easily. So, it fits well for project decoration, like small accents. Since 2018, we have also developed more color choices for our natural rattan cane webbing. This has become very popular in the market. As an expert in sourcing, I guide our furniture-maker customers, like Jacky, to choose the right grade for their specific furniture types, ensuring both quality and cost efficiency. Rattan is soft and not easy to break when woven, which makes it friendly for our weaving machines. This helps us to control the cost of production.
Rattan cane webbing in interiors?
Are you seeking a versatile material to enhance your interior spaces? Designers like Peter often need materials that offer both aesthetic appeal and practical benefits for hotel projects.
Malla de ratán1 in interiors adds organic texture, warmth, and visual interest to walls, ceilings, and built-in elements. Our wide range of natural and colored webbings, along with modern panel solutions, offers endless design possibilities.

Rattan cane webbing can do so much more than just furniture. I have seen it used beautifully in many interior design projects. It adds a natural, inviting feel. Since 2018, we have developed many more color choices for our natural rattan cane webbing. These new options are best sellers. The Indonesia government ban on raw material exports made China’s supply short. This made all rattan products very costly, which many customers found hard to accept. Because of this, we worked to develop our Tejido de caña de ratán de plástico2. It costs about half the price of natural cane webbing. This makes it a great option for large-scale interior projects where budget is key. Our customers, including hotel project designers like Peter, requested many colors. We developed a wide range to fit their needs. We now offer many options like mix colors and mix weaving patterns. We also combine rattan webbing with other materials like wood, glass, or aluminum to create rattan webbing panels. These panels are fantastic for walls, ceilings, and decorative screens. We also offer bamboo webbing and rattan + bamboo weaving options.
Recently, in 2024, we introduced PETG Rattan Panel. This is a very new item. It is becoming very popular in the decoration material market. It is easy for ceiling and wall cover decoration. It is waterproof and non-fire. We can make it in custom sizes for customers. PETG Rattan Panels combine strong PETG plastic with woven rattan texture. This makes them lightweight but durable. They give the natural look of rattan but have the weather resistance and flexibility of PETG. This makes them good for both inside and outside use. We also provide bamboo webbing panels which give a warm, organic texture. They are eco-friendly and made from renewable bamboo. They come as peel-and-stick wallpaper or panel formats, which makes installation quick and easy. They are suitable for walls, ceilings, furniture, or decor accents. They are ideal for homes, cafes, spas, and other commercial spaces.
Rattan cane webbing in outdoor furniture?
Are you tired of outdoor furniture that quickly breaks down in the sun and rain? Natural materials struggle outdoors, but durable, long-lasting solutions are now available.
Traditional rattan cane webbing is not suitable for outdoor furniture. However, our new range of plastic rattan cane webbing, launching in 2025, is specifically designed for outdoor use, offering durability, weather resistance, and significant cost savings.

Historically, natural rattan cane webbing was only suitable for indoor use. I have seen many people try to use it outdoors, but it just does not last. The sun damages it, rain causes mold, and it quickly becomes brittle. For many years, this was a problem for outdoor furniture manufacturers. The high cost of human weaving for outdoor wicker furniture was a big challenge. But we have solved this.

In 2025, we are launching a major development: our new webbing designed specifically for outdoor furniture manufacturers. We will have more than 10 kinds of our Plastic Rattan Cane webbing3 that can be used for outdoor furniture. We have done many tests. We have test reports to show our customers that our webbing can last for a long time. It can handle hot environments. This is a game-changer for the industry. The biggest cost in outdoor rattan furniture production is human weaving. But by using our outdoor plastic cane webbing panels4, manufacturers will not need to hand-weave too much on the whole chair. This can save up to 80% of worker weaving costs. This makes outdoor furniture much more affordable to produce. We will also offer more colors to choose from. Our outdoor webbing can be used for KD (knock-down) rattan outdoor furniture. This makes shipping and assembly easier for customers like Adel who purchase in bulk. This innovation comes from our two big plastic rattan cane webbing factories. These factories have over 3000 square meters and more than 100 automatic weaving machines. We develop more than 5 new products every year. Our goal is to provide good quality and new products, which are very important to our customers, including furniture makers and hotel project design companies like Peter’s.
